Overview of Gene Research
Anxa2, also known as Annexin A2, is a pleiotropic calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding protein. It is involved in various cellular processes such as vesicular transport, antioxidant defense, and actin remodeling [5]. It has been implicated in multiple pathways, for example, it activates the MYC-HIF1A-VEGF axis in esophageal cancer progression [1].
In non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), the p-STAT3/ANXA2 axis promotes caspase-1-mediated hepatocyte pyroptosis and fibrosis. The inhibition of p-STAT3 can suppress these processes, and over-expression of Anxa2 reverses this suppression [2]. In triple-negative breast cancer cells, ANXA2 is crucial to ATG7-mediated autophagy, leading to tumor aggressiveness. ANXA2 knockdown increases sensitivity to doxorubicin [3]. In gastric cancer, the EphA2-YES1-ANXA2 pathway promotes cancer progression and metastasis [4].
In conclusion, Anxa2 is involved in a wide range of biological functions, especially in the context of various diseases including cancer and NASH. Gene-knockout or conditional-knockout mouse models, if available in future studies, could further clarify its role in these disease conditions, helping to understand its function in specific biological processes and potentially leading to new therapeutic strategies.
