Overview of Gene Research
Plxnb2, a large transmembrane semaphorin receptor protein, is an important cellular receptor involved in multiple biological processes. It functions as a receptor for angiogenin (ANG) [3,4], and is associated with axon guidance pathways [2,5]. Plexins and their ligands semaphorins play plural functions in both the brain and the immune system, with Plxnb2 being a key component in these processes [1]. Genetic models, such as gene knockout (KO) mouse models, have been crucial in understanding its functions.
In a mouse model of chronic unpredictable stress (CUS), Plxnb2 was found to be enriched in astrocytes and microglia, and CUS reduced its expression in astrocytes. Inhibition of amygdaloid Plxnb2 by its functional blocking monoclonal antibody induced mice anxiety, amygdaloid enlargement, and microglial ramification, suggesting that PLXNB2 regulates amygdala-dependent stress responses [1]. In mice with spinal cord injury, deletion of Plexin-B2 in myeloid cells impaired corralling, leading to diffuse tissue damage, inflammatory spillover and hampered axon regeneration, indicating its importance in wound healing after spinal cord injury [5].
In conclusion, Plxnb2 is essential in processes like stress response and wound healing after spinal cord injury as revealed through mouse model-based research. These findings contribute to our understanding of related disease areas such as psychiatric disorders related to stress perception and spinal cord injury recovery.
