Overview of Gene Research
Fgfr1, fibroblast growth factor receptor 1, is a transmembrane cytokine receptor. It is crucial for early human embryo development, participating in gastrulation, organ specification, and tissue patterning. It is involved in multiple pathways, such as the PLCγ-NF-κB inflammatory signalling pathway [1].
In a mouse model, deletion of myeloid-expressed Fgfr1 in Apoe-/-mice reduced atherosclerotic lesions and lipid accumulations, indicating that Fgfr1 in macrophages promotes atherosclerosis through the PLCγ-mediated activation of the NF-κB inflammatory signalling pathway [1]. In prostate cancer cells, deletion of Fgfr1 in DU145 cells decreased the labile iron pool, suggesting its role in iron homeostasis [2].
In conclusion, Fgfr1 is essential for embryo development and is involved in multiple disease-related processes. The gene knockout mouse models have revealed its role in atherosclerosis and prostate cancer, providing insights into potential therapeutic targets for these diseases.
