Overview of Gene Research
FnTA, also known as the alpha subunit of human CAAX farnesyltransferase, is a key component of the enzyme that attaches a farnesyl group to specific cellular proteins ending with a "CAAXbox", such as p21ras proteins, nuclear lamins, and some retinal proteins. This post-translational modification is involved in multiple cellular processes, influencing protein function and localization within the cell [2].
In bladder cancer, circ-FNTA, a circular RNA related to the FNTA gene, has been studied. High levels of circ-FNTA in bladder cancer tissues are associated with worse prognosis. Silencing circ-FNTA attenuates the proliferative and invasive abilities of bladder cancer cells. circ-FNTA accelerates these processes through targeting the miRNA-451a/S1PR3 axis [1]. Additionally, androgen receptor-regulated circFNTA activates KRAS signaling to promote bladder cancer invasion. AR represses the RNA editing gene ADAR2 to increase circFNTA levels, which then affects miR-370-3p and FNTA expression, ultimately altering bladder cancer cell invasion and chemo-sensitivity [3].
In summary, FnTA and its related circular RNA circ-FNTA play important roles in bladder cancer progression. Understanding these relationships helps in revealing the molecular mechanisms of bladder cancer and may provide potential therapeutic targets for the disease.
