Overview of Gene Research
Hnrnpc, also known as heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein C (C1/C2), is an essential and ubiquitously abundant protein involved in mRNA processing. It belongs to the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs) family of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) which are crucial for nucleic acid metabolism. Hnrnpc is associated with various biological processes, and its dysregulation has been linked to multiple diseases [2].
In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), Hnrnpc down-regulation inhibits IL-6/STAT3-mediated metastasis by decreasing HIF1A expression, as it destabilizes HIF1A mRNA. Patients with positive Hnrnpc expression have decreased overall survival and increased recurrence rate [1].
In cervical cancer, knocking down Hnrnpc inhibits migration and invasion of cell lines, as Hnrnpc promotes lymphatic metastasis through m6A-dependent alternative splicing of FOXM1 [3].
In pancreatic cancer, overexpression of Hnrnpc in vitro increases cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and metastasis, and it promotes tumorigenesis in vivo by stabilizing IQGAP3 [4].
In conclusion, Hnrnpc plays a significant role in mRNA processing and is involved in various biological processes. Through gene knockout or knockdown studies in different cancer types such as HCC, cervical cancer, and pancreatic cancer, it has been shown to be closely related to tumor metastasis, proliferation, and patient prognosis. These findings highlight its potential as a biomarker and therapeutic target in cancer treatment.
