Overview of Gene Research
Rbmx2, short for RNA binding motif protein, X-linked 2, is involved in various biological processes. It participates in transcription regulation of cells [1]. It may also play a role in processes related to apoptosis, as suggested by its function in promoting epithelial cell apoptosis by down-regulating APAF-1's retention intron after Mycobacterium bovis infection [2]. Additionally, it has been linked to bipolar disorder, with an Alu element deletion in its gene potentially contributing to the disease development [3].
In the context of Theileria annulata infection, the protein TA05575 of this parasite was found to interact with RBMX2-like protein, which may contribute to the transformation of bovine leukocytes, as the distribution of TA05575 in the nucleus might be related to cell transformation [1]. In Mycobacterium bovis infection, knocking out RBMX2 led to significant enrichment in RNA splicing associated with apoptosis in embryo bovine lung cells compared to wild-type cells, indicating its role in promoting apoptosis during infection [2].
In conclusion, Rbmx2 is involved in transcription regulation and apoptosis-related processes. Findings from the study of its interactions in Theileria annulata-infected cells and its role in Mycobacterium bovis-induced apoptosis provide insights into pathogen-host interactions and disease-related cellular processes. The association with bipolar disorder also points to its potential significance in neurological disease mechanisms.
