Overview of Gene Research
TMEM82, a protein-coding gene, has its exact function, associated pathways, and biological importance yet to be comprehensively defined. However, it may play a role in biological processes related to certain carcinomas based on current research. Genetic models, such as KO or CKO mouse models, could potentially be valuable tools for further exploring its functions.
In hepatocellular carcinoma, TMEM82 was identified as one of three novel differentially-expressed protein-coding genes through whole-transcriptome shotgun sequencing. The discovery of its differential expression in liver cancer tissues indicates it may have a role in hepatocellular carcinoma, though further functional studies are needed to clarify its exact function [1].
In colorectal cancer, the expression level of TMEM82 was found not to be correlated with the overall survival of patients, suggesting it may not be a direct prognostic factor in this disease [2].
In conclusion, TMEM82 shows differential expression in hepatocellular carcinoma and has no direct correlation with overall survival in colorectal cancer. These findings from studies, although not involving KO/CKO mouse models, begin to shed light on TMEM82's potential roles in carcinoma-related biological processes, and further in-depth functional studies, especially those using genetic models, may help to better understand its biological functions and contributions to disease mechanisms.
