Overview of Gene Research
Ppp1r13b, also known as ASPP1 (apoptosis stimulating of p53 protein 1), is a major member of the apoptosis-stimulating proteins of the p53 family. It enhances apoptosis by stimulating p53-transactivation of selected proapoptotic target genes. It is involved in pathways like the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and plays a role in maintaining genomic integrity, especially in hematopoietic stem cells [4,5].
In silicosis, SiO₂ downregulates circRNA-012091 expression in lung fibroblasts, which in turn upregulates Ppp1r13B. Transfection experiments in L929 cells show that Ppp1r13B promotes the proliferation and migration of lung fibroblasts through endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) and autophagy, indicating its crucial role in the development of pulmonary fibrosis in silicosis [1]. In sheep, oar-miR-485-5p targets Ppp1r13B to regulate myoblast proliferation, with exogenous estradiol supplementation regulating their expression and promoting myoblast proliferation [2]. In chickens, circPPP1R13B promotes chicken skeletal muscle satellite cell proliferation and differentiation by targeting miR-9-5p and activating the IGF/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway [3].
In summary, Ppp1r13b is significant in apoptosis regulation, especially through its association with p53. Its role in diseases such as silicosis, as well as in muscle-related processes in sheep and chickens, has been revealed through functional studies. These findings from model-based research contribute to understanding the mechanisms underlying these biological processes and disease conditions, potentially providing new insights for therapeutic strategies.
