Overview of Gene Research
Obp2a, an odorant-binding protein, has diverse functions. It is involved in processes such as epidermal barrier function and may play a role in lipid metabolism [2,3]. In the epidermal keratinocytes, it protects against cytotoxic small hydrophobic molecules and regulates epidermal barrier function [2].
In prostate cancer, tumor-derived OBP2A promotes castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) development. Knockdown of OBP2A significantly inhibits CRPC and metastatic CRPC development, and improves the therapeutic efficacy of CTLA-4/PD-1 antibodies [1]. Treatment with OBP2A-binding ligand α-pinene can interrupt the function of OBP2A and suppress CRPC development.
In conclusion, Obp2a is crucial for maintaining epidermal barrier function and has a significant impact on prostate cancer development. The gene knockdown studies in relevant models have revealed its role in these biological processes, providing potential therapeutic strategies for advanced prostate cancer.
