Overview of Gene Research
Or10p1, also known as OLFR796 in mice, is a receptor gene. It is involved in the famsin-glucagon axis which mediates glucose homeostasis. Famsin, a gut-secreted hormone, binds to OR10P1, initiating calcium release in islet α cells' endoplasmic reticulum, triggering glucagon secretion and promoting hepatic glucose production [1].
In a genome-wide association study, SNP rs17117817 near OR10P1 was associated with heart rate response to β-blockers in both blacks and whites, highlighting OR10P1 as a novel gene related to heart rate changes in response to β-blockers [2]. Also, in Italian beef cattle breeds, OR10P1 was located in a breed-specific genomic region identified through ROH analysis, suggesting its potential selective and conservative interest in cattle genetics [3].
In conclusion, Or10p1 plays a crucial role in glucose homeostasis via the famsin-glucagon axis. Its association with heart rate response to β-blockers and presence in specific genomic regions of cattle imply its importance in multiple biological contexts. Research on Or10p1, including potential KO/CKO mouse models, could further clarify its functions and implications in related diseases and genetic traits.
