Overview of Gene Research
Gpr152 is a member of the Rhodopsin family of human G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), and it shows an evolutionary relationship to CRTH2/FPRs [1]. GPCRs are crucial in various cellular signaling pathways, which may involve processes like cell-cell communication, regulation of physiological functions, and response to external stimuli.
In a study focused on diffuse-type gastric cancer, a single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs869736 at position-309 of the PTPRCAP promoter was associated with susceptibility to this cancer type. Nine other SNPs in nearly perfect linkage disequilibrium with this SNP spread out for 26 kb on chromosome 11q13.1 covering RPS6KB2, PTPRCAP, CORO1B, and Gpr152. However, among these four genes, only PTPRCAP expression was affected by the haplotypes of the 10 SNPs [2].
In conclusion, Gpr152, as a GPCR, is likely involved in cellular signaling pathways. Although the research mainly focused on SNPs near Gpr152 in relation to diffuse-type gastric cancer, it did not directly reveal the function of Gpr152 through gene-knockout models. Future research using KO or CKO mouse models could potentially further clarify its role in this and other disease-related biological processes.
