Overview of Gene Research
Olfml2b, a member of the olfactomedin domain-containing protein family, has an ambiguous function, especially in tumors. Its role in biological processes may involve cell growth, cell cycle regulation, apoptosis, and cell communication through pathways like the M/G1 transition pathway, post-translational protein modification, and DNA replication pre-initiation [3].
Genome-wide screening identified Olfml2b as a robust prognostic biomarker in bladder cancer. High expression of Olfml2b was associated with poor prognosis, and its expression increased with the rise of stage and grade. Knockdown of Olfml2b in bladder cancer cell lines led to decreased migration and proliferation ability [1]. Pan-cancer analysis showed that Olfml2b was overexpressed in 14 cancers and related to prognosis, TMB, MSI, TME, and immune cell infiltration. It may also increase drug resistance of certain drugs [2].
In gastric cancer, Olfml2b was overexpressed, associated with tumor invasion depth and clinical stage, and could be used as a diagnostic and prognostic target [3]. In stomach adenocarcinoma, Olfml2b was among the genes associated with overall survival and related to immune cell fractions [4]. In gastric cancer, it was also identified as a hub gene for prognosis prediction [5].
In triple-negative breast cancer, Olfml2b was one of the genes influencing prognosis [6]. In ovarian cancer, Olfml2b was selected as a prognostic gene for a lactate metabolism-related prognostic model [7].
In summary, Olfml2b is a potential prognostic marker and a possible target for immunotherapy in various tumors. Its overexpression in many cancers is associated with poor prognosis, and its function in promoting cancer cell migration, proliferation, and drug resistance suggests its significance in cancer development. The studies on Olfml2b contribute to understanding cancer mechanisms and developing more effective cancer treatments.
