Overview of Gene Research
Adgrg3, also known as GPR97, is an adhesion G-protein-coupled receptor. It plays roles in regulating cytokine expression, and is involved in the NF-κB signaling pathway. It is expressed in various cells like granulocytes and has significance in host defense and immune-related biological processes [1,2,3].
Using an Adgrg3-knockout mouse model, researchers found that Adgrg3-deficient (Adgrg3-/ -) mice with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) had increased peak severity and cumulative disease scores. There was also more leukocyte infiltration, extensive demyelination, and an increase in Th1/Th17 cells in the CNS accompanied by high levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, indicating its importance in the development of EAE [2].
In conclusion, Adgrg3 is crucial in regulating cytokine expression and plays a significant role in EAE, an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system. The Adgrg3-knockout mouse model has been instrumental in revealing its function in this disease area, providing insights into potential therapeutic strategies for CNS autoimmunity [2].
