Overview of Gene Research
Rps19bp1, whose full name is ribosomal protein S19 binding protein 1, is involved in multiple biological processes. It plays a role in ribosome biogenesis, specifically in 40 S ribosomal subunit assembly, which is crucial for coordinating ribosome biogenesis and promoting erythropoiesis [1]. It is also part of regulatory axes in diseases, like the LINC00106/RPS19BP1/p53 axis in prostate cancer, and is associated with protein-folding processes in pancreatic β-cells in type 2 diabetes [2,3].
In a study using conditional knockout mouse models, depletion of Atf4 in hematopoietic cells led to erythroid differentiation defects and hypoplastic anemia. Mechanistically, ATF4 directly regulates Rps19bp1 transcription, and Rps19bp1 is essential for ribosome biogenesis in erythropoiesis. When Atf4 was depleted under 5-fluorouracil-induced stress, the recovery of hematopoietic lineages was impeded, highlighting the importance of the ATF4-RPS19BP1 axis in this process [1].
In conclusion, Rps19bp1 is essential for ribosome biogenesis and erythropoiesis, as demonstrated by gene-knockout-based research in mouse models. In disease contexts, its role in the LINC00106/RPS19BP1/p53 axis in prostate cancer and its association with protein-folding in pancreatic β-cells in type 2 diabetes suggest its potential as a therapeutic target in these diseases.
