Overview of Gene Research
Ola1, or Obg-like ATPase 1, is a highly conserved GTPase that possesses both GTPase and ATPase activities. It is involved in multiple biological processes such as cell proliferation, oxidative response, protein synthesis, and tumorigenesis. Ola1 is associated with pathways like mitochondrial energy metabolism, and its phosphorylation can trigger translocation to the nucleus, affecting gene expression related to mitochondrial bioenergetic function [2]. It also interacts with proteins like BRCA1 and BARD1, participating in centrosome regulation [3].

In colorectal cancer, Ola1 is highly expressed in 84% of cases compared to surrounding tissues, and high expression is an independent factor of poor prognosis. Ola1-KO CRC cell lines show lower growth and tumorigenesis ability, with down-regulation of HIF1α/CA9 axis, suggesting its role in promoting tumorigenesis through this axis [1]. In mouse oocytes, knockdown of Ola1 impairs germinal vesicle breakdown, spindle assembly, and spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC) activation, indicating its importance in oocyte meiosis [4].

In conclusion, Ola1 is crucial for various biological functions, including cell division-related processes and energy metabolism. Its role in promoting tumorigenesis in colorectal cancer and its importance in oocyte meiosis are revealed through gene knockout models. These findings highlight its significance in understanding the mechanisms of cancer development and reproductive biology.
