Overview of Gene Research
Pdgfrl, the platelet-derived growth factor receptor-like gene, is regarded as a tumor suppressor gene. It has been implicated in angiogenesis and steroid hormone production in the chicken reproductive system [4]. However, its exact function and associated pathways may vary depending on cell types. Genetic models can be valuable for further exploring its function.
In endometriosis, Pdgfrl was identified as one of the five biomarkers through a series of bioinformatics analyses and model construction. Its expression was validated in clinical samples, suggesting its potential role in the diagnosis of endometriosis [1]. In chondrocytes, overexpression of Pdgfrl promoted their proliferation but decreased the expression of chondrocyte differentiation marker genes, indicating it plays different roles in different cell types [2]. In colorectal cancer, the expression of Pdgfrl in normal tissues was higher than in cancer tissues, and recombinant human Pdgfrl could inhibit the proliferation and invasion of colorectal cancer HCT-116 cells, arresting the cell cycle at the G0/G1 phase, suggesting its potential in anti-cancer therapy for CRC [3]. In hepatocellular carcinoma, Pdgfrl was increased after combined treatment of regorafenib and radiotherapy. It suppressed HCC cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis by inhibiting the STAT3 pathway activation, indicating its role in the cumulative antitumor effect of the combined treatment [5].
In conclusion, Pdgfrl shows diverse functions in different cell types and disease conditions. It has potential as a biomarker in endometriosis diagnosis and as a target in cancer therapies such as in colorectal and hepatocellular carcinomas. The study of Pdgfrl through genetic models helps to understand its role in specific biological processes and disease mechanisms, providing insights for potential therapeutic strategies.
