Overview of Gene Research
MYNN, also known as myoneurin, is a gene encoding a BTB/POZ and zinc finger protein. It is involved in regulating BMP signaling. Mynn interacts with Smad proteins in the nucleus, disrupting the association between Smad protein and the phosphatase Ppm1a, preventing Smad dephosphorylation, which is crucial for proper BMP signal activity during tissue formation and organogenesis [2].
In a Turkish population study, the polymorphism of MYNN rs10936599 was found to be in linkage disequilibrium with SNPs in the 3q26.2 chromosomal region, and had a strong cumulative association with bladder cancer risk. Patients with certain genotypes (CT, CT+TT) had a decreased risk, while the CC genotype had a two-times increased risk ratio for bladder cancer [1]. In a GWAS meta-analysis on female genital tract polyps, MYNN was prioritized as a gene involved in DNA repair, cell proliferation, and cell growth [3]. In an ovarian cancer study, MYNN was identified as a novel potential driver through integrated copy number and expression analysis [4]. A study on colorectal cancer patients found that the rs10936599 SNP at MYNN was significantly associated with disease-free survival or overall survival [5].
