Overview of Gene Research
Synpr, with currently no widely-known key aliases, seems to be involved in multiple biological contexts. In the context of the GABAergic system, it synergistically regulates GABA synthesis, release, reuptake, and replenishment along with other proteins like GAD65, DBI, etc. [2].
In the visual system of teleost fishes, it is part of a conserved synteny cluster related to the evolution of the green-light-sensitive visual opsin genes (RH2) [4]. Also, it may be associated with glycometabolism-related pathways like insulin resistance and glucose tolerance [3].
Genome-wide association studies have identified Synpr as a gene associated with autoimmune hepatitis type 1. A single-nucleotide polymorphism in SYNPR (rs6809477: OR = 1.25; p = 5.48×10-9) was significantly associated with the disease, highlighting its potential role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune hepatitis [1]. In addition, a study on specific language impairment found a rare stop-gain variant in SYNPR in one proband, suggesting its possible role in this disorder [5].
In conclusion, Synpr is involved in important biological processes such as GABAergic regulation, visual system evolution in fish, and potentially glycometabolism. Its association with autoimmune hepatitis and possible role in specific language impairment, as revealed through genetic studies, underscores its significance in understanding these disease areas. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the biological functions of Synpr and provide potential insights into disease mechanisms.
