Overview of Gene Research
Osbpl11, also known as oxysterol-binding protein-like protein 11, belongs to the OSBP family of intracellular receptors. It is involved in lipid binding and transport, and may participate in processes related to cholesterol and glucose metabolism [2]. It has been associated with multiple biological pathways, and its study in genetic models can help understand its functions.
In acute myeloid leukemia (AML), overexpression of OSBPL11 reversed the tumor-suppressive effects of miR-7-5p, which curbed cellular proliferation and promoted apoptosis in AML cells. Exo-miR-7-5p derived from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells inhibited OSBPL11 expression through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, leading to the formation of AML cells prone to apoptosis and a low survival rate [1]. In obesity, certain polymorphisms in the OSBPL11 gene were associated with cardiovascular disease risk factors such as diastolic blood pressure, low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels, hyperglycemia/diabetes, and metabolic syndrome [2].
In summary, Osbpl11 is involved in lipid-related functions and is associated with diseases like AML and obesity-related cardiovascular risks. Functional studies, such as those involving gene-targeting in relevant disease models, have revealed its role in regulating cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metabolism, contributing to a better understanding of these disease mechanisms [1,2].
