Overview of Gene Research
Ntsr2, the neurotensin receptor 2, belongs to the G protein-coupled receptor family. It is associated with various physiological and pathological processes. Ntsr2 is involved in signaling pathways such as ERK signaling and interacts with other proteins like TrkB. It plays a vital role in systems including the nervous system, adipose tissue, and is implicated in diseases like cancers and mental disorders [2,3]. Genetic models, especially knockout mouse models, are valuable for studying its function.
In adipose tissue, adenoviral-mediated knockdown or knockout of NTS (the ligand of Ntsr2) enhanced cold tolerance, indicating that Ntsr2-mediated NTS signaling has an anti-thermogenic effect [1]. In B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL), Ntsr2 forms a complex with TrkB, activating survival signaling pathways. Downregulation of Ntsr2 led to apoptotic cell death in B-CLL cells, suggesting its crucial role in B-CLL cell survival [5]. In NTSR3/sortilin knockout mice, increased brain Ntsr2 expression led to resistance to thermal and chemical pain, highlighting its role in nociception [4].
In conclusion, Ntsr2 is essential in multiple biological processes. Its function in adipose thermogenesis, pain response, and cancer cell survival has been revealed through knockout mouse models. Understanding Ntsr2 contributes to the exploration of potential therapeutic strategies for diseases related to metabolism, pain, and cancer.
