Overview of Gene Research
Tst, encoding toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1), is an important virulence factor gene in Staphylococcus aureus. TSST-1 can lead to multi-organ malfunction, and the tst gene associated Staphylococcus aureus Pathogenicity Island (SaPI) may play a critical role in the pathological process of infection. It promotes the secretion of inflammatory cytokines like IL-6, IL-2, and IL17A, which can indirectly induce immune suppression [1].
In the study of tst gene, animal experiments were carried out. BALB/c mice infected with tst gene associated SaPI positive isolates showed severe body weight loss, high bacterial load in organs such as the liver, heart, kidney, and spleen, and more severe tissue impairment compared to those infected with negative isolates [1].
In conclusion, the tst gene in Staphylococcus aureus is crucial in the pathogenesis of infections. Through animal models, it has been revealed that the tst gene associated SaPI promotes the secretion of inflammatory cytokines and induces immune suppression, highlighting its significance in understanding the mechanisms of Staphylococcus aureus-related diseases.
