Overview of Gene Research
Slc10a3, also known as P3, is a member of the solute carrier family 10. The SLC10 family consists of influx transporters for bile acids, steroidal hormones, drugs, and other substrates, though the substrate specificity of Slc10a3 remains undetermined and it may function as a housekeeping protein [5].
In lower grade glioma (LGG), Slc10a3 was upregulated and associated with poor overall survival, and its genetic alterations were linked to poor progression-free survival. It may participate in the transport of multiple substances, neurogenic signaling, immune response, and programmed cell death in LGG, and correlates with immune infiltration and programmed cell death-related gene signatures [1,3].
In colorectal adenocarcinoma, Slc10a3 is significantly upregulated, associated with poorer survival, and impacts the immune microenvironment, showing correlations with immune cell types, chemokines, and cancer-associated fibroblasts [2].
In liver cancer, the expression of Slc10a3 was different between normal and malignant tissues, and it had the most significant relationship with immune cells among SLC10 family genes [4].
In conclusion, Slc10a3 appears to be involved in various biological processes such as immune-related responses and may play important roles in several cancers including LGG, colorectal adenocarcinoma, and liver cancer. Further in vivo studies using gene knockout (KO) or conditional knockout (CKO) mouse models could potentially provide more insights into its precise functions and the underlying mechanisms in these disease conditions.
