Overview of Gene Research
Zfp282, a gene with currently no widely-known aliases, is involved in the estrogen-related pathway and holds significance in breast tumorigenesis. It is part of the molecular machinery related to estrogen receptor α (ERα)-mediated gene expression, an important process in breast cancer development [1].
A study identified Zfp282 as a CoCoA-binding protein that directly associates with ERα. Zfp282 is required for estrogen-induced expression of ERα target genes, as well as estrogen-dependent breast cancer cell growth and tumorigenesis. Moreover, SUMOylation of Zfp282 positively regulates its co-activator activity by increasing its binding affinity to ERα and CoCoA, and enhancing the recruitment of the Zfp282-CoCoA complex to the promoter of ERα target genes [1].
In conclusion, Zfp282 plays essential roles in estrogen signaling and breast tumorigenesis. The findings from this research, although not specifically from KO/CKO mouse models in this case, reveal the importance of Zfp282 in the context of breast cancer, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying breast tumorigenesis related to estrogen signaling [1].
