Overview of Gene Research
Eng, also known as Endoglin, is a key regulator involved in immune responses and angiogenesis in liver cancer [1]. It promotes the differentiation of tumor cells into vascular endothelial cells (ECs), playing a crucial role in the formation of tumor vasculature [1].
In liver cancer, high expression of Eng is associated with more aggressive cancer characteristics and worse patient prognosis [1]. Functional experiments, such as Transwell migration assays and tube formation assays with Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs), confirmed that Eng increases the expression of Collagen type Iα1 (COL1A1), thereby promoting angiogenesis in liver cancer [1]. Additionally, HCC patients with elevated Eng levels responded well to sorafenib treatment [1].
In conclusion, Eng is an important biomarker of prognosis in liver cancer. Its role in endothelial cell differentiation and angiogenesis in liver cancer makes it a potential target for identifying liver cancer patients who might benefit from targeted immunotherapies [1].
