Overview of Gene Research
Pgf, or placental growth factor, is an important angiogenic factor [3]. It is involved in various biological processes, and its deficiency may affect development. For example, in preeclampsia, reduced Pgf levels may impact brain development [1]. Pgf is also crucial in placental function, as decreased circulating Pgf is associated with placental deficiency in fetal growth restriction (FGR) [2].
In Pgf -/- mice, neonatal treatment with recombinant PGF altered their behavior and neuroanatomy at adulthood. Specifically, different doses of PGF led to changes in locomotor activity, anxiety-like and depressive-like behavior, as well as in the volume of certain brain structures, without affecting cerebral or retinal vasculature [1].
In conclusion, Pgf plays essential roles in development, especially in brain development and placental function. The study of Pgf -/- mouse models has provided insights into how Pgf deficiency impacts behavior and neuroanatomy, and its relevance to conditions such as preeclampsia and FGR. Understanding Pgf is crucial for unravelling the mechanisms behind these diseases and potentially developing new treatment strategies.
