Overview of Gene Research
Ccl6, also known as C-C motif chemokine ligand 6, is a chemokine that plays significant roles in various biological processes. It is involved in cell-cell communication, particularly in immune-related responses, and is associated with pathways like the PI3-kinase/Akt signalling pathway. Ccl6 is important in inflammation, wound healing, and cancer metastasis, among others. Genetic models, such as knockout mice, have been crucial in studying its functions [1,2,3].
In eosinophil-related studies, genetic knockout of Ccl6 in Il-5 Tg mice remarkably attenuated bone metastasis, indicating that eosinophils promote tumor cell migration and metastasis through secreting Ccl6 [1]. In skin wound healing, Ccl6 promotes M2 polarization, inhibits macrophage autophagy, and accelerates skin wound healing by activating the PI3-kinase/Akt signalling pathway [2]. In allergic airway inflammation, Ccl6-knockout mice showed decreased eosinophil differentiation and airway inflammation, identifying the CCL6-CCR1 axis as involved in the crosstalk between eosinophils and hematopoietic stem cells [3].
In conclusion, Ccl6 is a multifunctional chemokine. Its functions are revealed through model-based research, especially gene knockout mouse models. These studies show its importance in cancer metastasis, skin wound healing, and allergic airway inflammation, providing insights into potential therapeutic strategies for related diseases.
