Overview of Gene Research
Prrg3, also known as Proline Rich RG3, has not had its essential function, associated pathways, or overall biological importance clearly established in the provided references. However, genetic models could potentially be valuable in further studying its functions.
In a study on glioblastoma, Prrg3 was identified as one of six candidate genes (along with AEBP1, ANXA2R, MAP1LC3A, TMEM60, and RPS4X) that predicted overall survival and GBM recurrence using LASSO and random forest algorithms [1]. In another study on early stage hormone receptor-negative and triple-negative breast cancer, Prrg3 was part of a novel set of 14 prognostic gene candidates identified as outcome predictors for metastatic relapse [2]. A study on a Chinese family with X-linked nonsyndromic high myopia mapped the disease locus to Xq28, and sequence analysis of Prrg3 did not identify any potential causative mutation [3].
In conclusion, while Prrg3 has been associated with glioblastoma prognosis, metastatic outcome in breast cancer, and investigated in a high myopia study, its exact biological functions are yet to be fully elucidated. The identification in disease-related studies suggests that further research, potentially through gene knockout or conditional knockout mouse models, could help clarify its role in these disease conditions.
