Overview of Gene Research
Taar7b, a gene with currently no widely-known aliases, is involved in the neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction pathway. Genes in this pathway play crucial roles in neural communication and regulation of various neural functions, suggesting Taar7b's importance in normal neural processes [1]. Animal models are valuable for studying Taar7b's functions in vivo.
In an animal model of autism, gene expression profiling and WGCNA were used. The down-regulation of Taar7b in the neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction pathway was validated by qRT-PCR. Immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry further showed its down-regulation in valproic acid-treated animals and BTBR T+tf/J mice, suggesting its potential role in autism [1]. Additionally, in a study on cocaine-induced changes in rats, cocaine exposure differentially altered the promoter methylation levels of Taar7b in the nucleus accumbens and lateral habenula of rats with different spontaneous exploratory activities, indicating its possible involvement in addiction-related processes [2].
In conclusion, Taar7b is associated with the neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction pathway and may play significant roles in autism and addiction-related processes. Studies using animal models, like those in autism and cocaine-treated rats, have revealed these potential functions, contributing to our understanding of the underlying mechanisms of these diseases.
