Overview of Gene Research
MEX3D, a member of the MEX3 (muscle excess 3) family, is an RNA-binding protein. It has been implicated in post-transcriptional regulation of various biological processes [3]. However, its exact normal physiological function and associated pathways are not comprehensively detailed in the provided abstracts, but its role in disease has been more explored.
In prostate cancer, MEX3D is highly upregulated by loss of PTEN and/or expression of the TMPRSS2/ERG fusion gene. It drives soft agar colony formation, invasion, and tumor formation in vivo, and its oncogenic role is related to the induction of TCF3 [1]. In cervical carcinoma, MEX3D is upregulated by HPV16 E7 and promotes tumorigenesis by destabilizing TSC22D1 mRNA [2]. In non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), overexpression of MEX3D is associated with significantly worse overall survival in patients with LUAD and LUSC [3].
In conclusion, MEX3D acts as an oncogenic driver in multiple cancers, such as prostate, cervical, and non-small-cell lung cancer. These findings from in vivo and in vitro studies in cancer models help to understand its role in tumorigenesis, suggesting that MEX3D could potentially be a therapeutic target for these cancers.
