Overview of Gene Research
Abcf2, a cytosolic member of the ABC superfamily of transporters, is associated with multiple biological functions. Although its exact core function remains to be fully elucidated, it is involved in important pathways related to chemoresistance and virus-host interactions. Its role in these processes is of great significance for understanding disease mechanisms [1,2].
In ovarian cancer, Abcf2, as an Nrf2 target gene, contributes to cisplatin resistance. Overexpression of Nrf2 led to high levels of Abcf2 and increased resistance to cisplatin-induced apoptosis, while knockdown of Nrf2 decreased Abcf2 levels and increased cisplatin sensitivity. Additionally, in ovarian cancer cell lines, overexpression of Abcf2 decreased apoptosis and increased cell viability after cisplatin treatment, and knockdown of Abcf2 had the opposite effect, indicating its critical role in cisplatin resistance [1]. In the small brown planthopper (Laodelphax striatellus), knockdown of LsABCF2 promoted the accumulation of rice black-streaked dwarf virus (RBSDV), suggesting that L. striatellus may upregulate LsABCF2 to suppress RBSDV infection [2]. In renal cell carcinoma, circular RNA circEHD2 enhances resistance to sunitinib via the miR-4731-5p/ABCF2 axis, where circEHD2 binds to miR-4731-5p to mediate ABCF2 [3].
In summary, Abcf2 plays a crucial role in chemoresistance in cancers like ovarian and renal cell carcinomas and in the regulation of virus infection in insect vectors. These findings from different experimental models enhance our understanding of its functions in disease-related biological processes, potentially providing new strategies for cancer treatment and virus management [1,2,3].
