Overview of Gene Research
MTURN is a gene that has shown significance in multiple biological contexts. In lung cancer, it is part of a three-platelet mRNA set (along with MAX and HLA-B) that is up-regulated in lung cancer patients, especially in early-stage patients, and has high diagnostic efficiency in female lung cancer patients [1]. In lung adenocarcinoma, the ERG-cg27071152-MTURN regulatory axis was proposed as a potential biomarker for predicting prognosis, with MTURN being downregulated in lung adenocarcinoma samples [2]. Additionally, MTURN was identified as one of the genes regulated by d-limonene, which can help stratify lung adenocarcinoma patients who may benefit from d-limonene intervention [3]. In pigs, MTURN is associated with inflammatory processes related to hock joint bumps [4].
The studies, mainly through gene expression analysis in human cancer patients and gene-trait association in pigs, have revealed the role of MTURN in disease-related biological processes. In lung cancer, its up-regulation in platelets may be related to the "education" of platelets by tumors, while in lung adenocarcinoma, its down-regulation and involvement in regulatory axes are associated with prognosis. In pigs, its association with hock joint bumps indicates its role in inflammatory processes.
In conclusion, MTURN plays important roles in cancer-related processes such as lung cancer diagnosis and lung adenocarcinoma prognosis, as well as in inflammatory processes in pigs. Understanding MTURN's function provides insights into disease mechanisms, which may potentially contribute to the development of diagnostic and treatment strategies for lung cancer and related diseases.
