Overview of Gene Research
Rpl34, ribosomal protein L34, is an important component of ribosomes. Ribosomes are crucial for protein synthesis, a fundamental biological process in all living cells. As part of ribosomes, Rpl34 likely plays a key role in this essential cellular function [1,2].
Accumulating evidence indicates that Rpl34 promotes tumor malignance. In glioblastoma, its expression is significantly enriched compared with low-grade glioma and normal brain, and is associated with poor survival. Inhibition of Rpl34 induced glioma cell apoptosis by activation of Bad/Caspase7/PARP signaling pathway [1]. In osteosarcoma, knockdown of Rpl34 suppresses cell proliferation probably through EIF3A, EIF3F, and FAU [2].
In conclusion, Rpl34 is essential for ribosome-mediated protein synthesis. Research using loss-of-function approaches in cancer cell models has revealed its role in promoting tumor cell survival and proliferation in glioblastoma and osteosarcoma. Understanding Rpl34's function provides insights into tumorigenesis mechanisms, potentially guiding the development of new cancer therapies.
