Overview of Gene Research
Pdgfrl, or platelet-derived growth factor receptor-like, is regarded as a tumor suppressor gene [2,3,5]. It may be involved in various biological processes. For example, in chondrocytes, it controls proliferation and differentiation [2]. The PDGF family, to which Pdgfrl belongs, is associated with angiogenesis and steroid hormone production [4].
In endometriosis, Pdgfrl was identified as one of the five biomarkers, along with CXCL12, AGTR1, PTGER3, and S1PR1, through bioinformatics analysis. These biomarkers were selected from a relatively suitable SVM model for endometriosis prediction, and the nomogram based on them had a robust ability to predict the disease [1]. In chondrocytes, overexpression of Pdgfrl promoted the proliferation of chondrocytic HCS-2/8 cells but decreased the expression of chondrocyte differentiation marker genes [2]. In colorectal cancer, the expression of Pdgfrl was higher in normal tissues than in cancer tissues, and recombinant human Pdgfrl could inhibit the proliferation and invasion of CRC HCT-116 cells and arrest the cell cycle at the G0/G1 phase [3]. In hepatocellular carcinoma, Pdgfrl, a potential target of regorafenib, was increased after cumulative treatment of regorafenib and radiotherapy. Pdgfrl suppressed HCC cell proliferation and promoted apoptosis by inhibiting the STAT3 pathway activation [5].
In conclusion, Pdgfrl plays diverse roles in different cell types and diseases. It has potential as a biomarker in endometriosis, and its tumor-suppressing function is evident in colorectal and hepatocellular carcinomas. In chondrocytes, it shows a unique function in regulating cell proliferation and differentiation. The study of Pdgfrl provides valuable insights into understanding the molecular mechanisms of these diseases and potential therapeutic strategies.
