Detailed Document
Overview of Gene Research
Ccdc7b, also known as Biot2-L, contains a conserved domain-Ccdc7. It is highly expressed in adult testis, suggesting its involvement in testis development and spermatogonia [3].
RNA interference against Biot2 (a related gene, potentially an alias) inhibits the growth of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo. Treating B16 murine melanoma, LL/2 murine Lewis lung carcinoma and CT26 murine colorectal adenocarcinoma with special shRNA targeting Biot2 significantly reduces their proliferation rate in vitro [1]. Silencing Biot2 in CT26 cells by RNA interference also induces G1 phase arrest and apoptosis through regulation of p16 and p21 [2].
In conclusion, Ccdc7b (Biot2-L) seems to play a role in testis-related biological processes. The related gene Biot2 shows potential as a target for biotherapy and gene therapy in cancer, as demonstrated by RNA interference studies, which help in understanding its function in tumorigenesis.
