Overview of Gene Research
Cox7c, encoding cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7C, is a key component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, involved in oxidative phosphorylation [3,4,5,6]. It plays a crucial role in energy production within cells and is associated with mitochondrial function and cellular respiration pathways [3,4,5,6]. Genetic models are valuable for studying its functions.
In Aspergillus fumigatus, deletion of cox7c leads to pan-azole resistance, reduced colony growth, and resistance to multiple antifungal agents. The cox7c knockout strain shows decreased intracellular itraconazole concentration, accumulation of intracellular heme B, and elevated transcriptional expression levels of multidrug transport genes [1]. In hepatocellular carcinoma, the long non-coding RNA COX7C-5 promotes tumorigenesis and progression by targeting the miR-581/ZEB2 axis [2]. Also, UBE2D1 and COX7C are identified as potential biomarkers of diabetes-related sepsis [3].
In summary, Cox7c is essential for mitochondrial function and energy production. Gene knockout studies in Aspergillus fumigatus have revealed its role in antifungal resistance. In the context of human diseases, its associated lncRNA in hepatocellular carcinoma and its potential as a biomarker in diabetes-related sepsis highlight its significance in disease mechanisms, providing insights for further research on related disease treatment and prevention.
