Overview of Gene Research
RBBP7, also known as retinoblastoma-binding protein 7, is a core component of many histone modification and chromatin remodeling complexes, regulating chromatin metabolism, which is crucial for DNA replication and cell proliferation [4,5,6]. It is involved in various signaling pathways such as PI3K/AKT, and plays important roles in multiple biological processes and disease conditions [1].
In mice, deprivation of rbbp7 in spermatogonial and pachytene spermatocyte-derived cells led to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis, indicating its importance in spermatogenesis [2]. In uterine stromal cells, Rbbp7 silencing compromised decidualization via attenuating histone H4 acetylation and cyclin D3 expression, suggesting it is required for normal postimplantation decidual development [5].
In conclusion, RBBP7 is essential for normal cellular functions related to chromatin modification, cell cycle regulation, and proliferation. Its role has been clearly demonstrated in mouse models in spermatogenesis and uterine decidualization. In diseases, it has been associated with cancers like hepatocellular carcinoma, esophageal cancer, and testicular tumors, where it promotes tumor progression, highlighting its potential as a biomarker and therapeutic target [1,2,3,6].
