Overview of Gene Research
Cyp2j11 is a member of the cytochrome P450 CYP2J subfamily. Enzymes in this subfamily are involved in the metabolism of fatty acids, such as arachidonic acid (AA) and linoleic acid (LA), to generate bioactive compounds, which may play roles in various biological processes [4].
Cyp2j11 transcripts were found to be most abundant in the kidney and heart, with protein detected primarily in the kidney (proximal convoluted tubules), liver, and heart (cardiomyocytes), indicating its potential importance in these organs [4]. In the study of the mouse Cyp2j subfamily's tissue distribution and regulation, Cyp2j11 was highly expressed in both male and female kidneys [1]. Also, sex differences in Cyp2j11 mRNA levels were observed in both wild-type and GHR-deficient mice, suggesting a role of sex-dependent factors in its regulation [2]. In murine HL-1 cells, Cyp2j11 mRNA levels were expressed to the same extent as in mouse hearts, making HL-1 cells a potential in vitro model to study its function [3]. Additionally, in a transcriptomic study of selenium against liver injury induced by beta-cypermethrin in mice, Cyp2j11 was significantly enriched in functional categories related to retinol metabolism, linoleic acid metabolism, and Jak-STAT signaling pathway [5].
In summary, Cyp2j11 is involved in fatty acid metabolism and is expressed in multiple key organs. Its expression shows sex-related differences and is associated with certain metabolic pathways and potential disease-related processes. Studies using mouse models and cell lines like HL-1 cells have provided insights into its tissue-specific expression, regulation, and potential roles in biological functions and disease-related pathways [1-5].
