Overview of Gene Research
Idnk, as gluconokinase, is involved in the phosphorylation of gluconate to generate 6-phosphogluconate, which is further metabolized via the Entner-Doudoroff pathway in Escherichia coli. In this bacterium, it is part of the GntII system related to L-idonic acid catabolism [2,3].
In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, knockdown of IDNK significantly inhibited cell proliferation and increased apoptosis. A total of 1196 genes were differentially expressed in IDNK-knockdown BEL-7404 cells, and the pathway of tRNA charging was significantly inhibited. This indicates IDNK may be a candidate therapeutic target for HCC [1].
In conclusion, Idnk has a role in metabolism-related pathways in bacteria. In the context of HCC, its function in promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis was revealed through knockdown experiments, suggesting its potential significance in cancer treatment research.
