Detailed Document
Overview of Gene Research
Tmem50a, whose function has been under exploration in multiple species. In humans, it is encoded by SMP1 located in the intergenic region of RH genes. It may play roles in regulating the expression of RH genes, like RHCE and RHD, potentially through affecting the stability of RH mRNA via splicing function. It also might be involved in the development of the embryonic nervous system [1].
In Akkaraman sheep, Tmem50a is proposed as a putative quantitative trait locus for growth and linear type traits, indicating its potential role in growth and morphological structure in sheep [2]. In a four-way crossbred pig population, Tmem50a was detected as a candidate gene related to the water loss rate in the longissimus muscle, suggesting its connection with meat quality traits [3]. In zebrafish, Tmem50a was identified as one of the top-two stable genes for different developmental stages, making it a suitable reference gene for normalizing RT-qPCR data [4].
In conclusion, Tmem50a seems to have diverse functions across species, being involved in gene regulation, embryonic development, growth-related traits, and meat quality. These findings from different research models contribute to a better understanding of its biological functions, which may potentially offer insights into related biological processes and traits in different organisms.
