Overview of Gene Research
Krt79, a type II cytokeratin, is a key structural protein in epithelial tissues. It has been identified as a regulator of hair canal morphogenesis and regeneration in the skin [1,3]. In the liver, Krt79 is regulated by PPARA, HNF4A, and HER2, and is highly associated with liver damage, suggesting its potential as a diagnostic marker for human liver diseases [1].
In mice, Krt79 is undetectable in normal conditions, but its expression is significantly increased by the PPARA agonist WY-14643 and fenofibrate, and completely abolished in Ppara-null mice [1]. In the context of cashmere fineness in goats, KRT79 shows a positive regulatory effect as verified by PRM technology [2]. In the hair follicle development, K79+ cells at the distal tips of columns change shape, recede, and undergo cell death during late embryogenesis and early postnatal development, creating an orifice for hair emergence [3].
In conclusion, Krt79 plays important roles in skin and hair follicle development, as well as in liver response to damage. Studies in mouse models have revealed its regulatory mechanisms and potential as a biomarker, contributing to our understanding of related biological processes and disease conditions.
