Overview of Gene Research
Ifi207 is a member of the PYHIN and Alr gene families. It has a key role in innate immunity, being involved in cytokine promoter induction, and is associated with the STING-mediated pathway. It also contributes to host-pathogen interactions, with its study facilitated by genetic models like KO mouse models for understanding its functions [1,2,3].
Generation of Ifi207-/-mice demonstrated that IFI207 is not involved in autoimmunity. Instead, it is required for the establishment of Klebsiella pneumoniae lung infection and macrophage phagocytosis of Klebsiella [1]. In addition, in vivo studies show that IFI207 controls murine leukemia virus (MLV) infection, acting via the STING-mediated response to cGAMP, dsDNA, DMXXA, and MLV, by stabilizing STING protein through its repeat region [2,3].
In conclusion, Ifi207 is crucial for innate immune responses, playing diverse roles in host-pathogen interactions such as in bacterial and retroviral infections. The use of Ifi207 KO mouse models has been instrumental in uncovering its functions in these specific disease-relevant biological processes.
