Overview of Gene Research
Cenpl, short for Centromere protein L, is an important member of the centromere protein (CENP) family. It is involved in the mitotic process of eukaryotic cells, playing a crucial role in cell division. Although the specific associated pathways are not comprehensively detailed in the provided references, its significance in cell-cycle-related processes is emphasized [1,4].
Cenpl has been found to be upregulated in most cancers, including lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD), breast cancer, and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) [1-7, 9]. In LUAD, its upregulation and mutation are associated with a poorer prognosis, and it regulates cell proliferation, cell cycle, and is negatively correlated with the inflammation level and CD8+ T-cell infiltration [1]. In breast cancer, high Cenpl expression is related to cell cycle-associated processes, immune cell infiltration, and knockdown of Cenpl reduces cell proliferation and migration [3]. In HCC, Cenpl promotes cell proliferation, cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and glycolysis via the MEK1/2-ERK1/2 pathway, and serves as an independent prognostic factor [4]. In PAAD, overexpression of Cenpl mRNA is significantly correlated with poor prognosis [2].
In conclusion, Cenpl is essential for the mitotic process in eukaryotic cells. Through studies on cancer models, it has been revealed that Cenpl plays a significant role in the development and prognosis of multiple cancers, making it a potential biomarker and therapeutic target for cancer treatment [1-7, 9].
