Overview of Gene Research
GRHPR, known as Glyoxylate reductase/hydroxypyruvate reductase, is a D-2-hydroxy-acid dehydrogenase mainly existing in the liver. It plays a critical role in the formation of primary hyperoxaluria type 2 (PH2) [4].
In hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), overexpression of GRHPR suppresses cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, acting as a tumor suppressor regulated by miR-138-5p through the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway [1].
In West Bengal, India, a homozygous GRHPR c.494G>A mutation was found to cause early onset of nephrolithiasis, with the mutation being pathogenic with loss of function [2].
In non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the circular RNA circ_GRHPR promotes cell proliferation and invasion by interacting with the RNA-binding protein PCBP2 [3].
In TNBS-induced experimental colitis, up-regulation of GRHPR is associated with intestinal epithelial cells apoptosis, potentially serving as a therapeutic target for Crohn's disease [4].
In conclusion, GRHPR is involved in multiple biological processes and diseases. Its function in tumor suppression in HCC, role in causing nephrolithiasis, and impact on NSCLC cell behavior as well as in experimental colitis demonstrate its significance. Research on GRHPR helps understand disease mechanisms and could potentially lead to new therapeutic strategies for related diseases.
