Overview of Gene Research
Ankrd60, also known as ankyrin repeat domain 60, has been associated with multiple biological aspects. In humans, it is associated with body height, as identified in a Korean population study where it was among 15 loci influencing height [3]. It is also potentially linked to adolescent idiopathic scoliosis [2].
In Nordic Red cattle, Ankrd60 was identified as a candidate gene for the female fertility index (FTI), which includes sub-traits like number of inseminations per conception and intervals between inseminations. Although the exact mechanism of how Ankrd60 regulates female fertility is unknown, the gene was located on a chromosome associated with FTI [1]. In Icelandic horses, Ankrd60 is in a genomic region associated with the conformation of back and croup, which influences the quality of lateral gaits [2].
In conclusion, Ankrd60 appears to play important roles in diverse biological processes across different species, including height regulation in humans, female fertility in cattle, and back and croup conformation affecting gait in horses. These findings from different research models provide insights into the gene's functions and potential implications in various biological and breeding-related contexts. [1,2,3]
