Detailed Document
Overview of Gene Research
Kyat3, also known as kynurenine aminotransferase III (KAT3), is involved in kynurenine metabolism [5]. Kynurenine metabolism is part of the tryptophan catabolic pathway, which has implications in various biological processes including immune response, energy metabolism, and potentially in the development of certain diseases [1,4].
In a study on tuberculosis patients, the protein encoded by Kyat3 showed deregulation in the serum small extracellular vesicles proteome, indicating its potential role in the host-pathogen interaction and immune response in tuberculosis [1]. In a zebrafish larvae model, Lactobacillus gasseri treatment regulated the expression of Kyat3, suggesting its involvement in the protection against high-cholesterol diet-induced fatty liver injury [2]. In critically ill patients and mice, the expression of Kyat3 in skeletal muscle was affected, and it was associated with clinical outcomes [3]. In idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients, the Ksucc levels in the protein encoded by Kyat3 were different compared to controls, highlighting its possible role in the pathogenesis of this disease [4]. In mice, exercise promoted Kyat3 expression in muscle, enhancing kynurenine metabolism and preventing L-kynurenine-induced depression-like behavior [5].
In conclusion, Kyat3 plays important roles in multiple biological processes and disease conditions, including tuberculosis, fatty liver injury, critical illness, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and depression-like behavior in mice. Research on Kyat3 using various models such as zebrafish larvae, mice, and human patient samples has provided insights into its functions in these areas, contributing to a better understanding of related disease mechanisms.
