Overview of Gene Research
Itgb6, encoding integrin β6, is a member of the integrin family. It frequently associates with integrin subunit αv to form integrin αvβ6, a transmembrane heterodimer involved in wound healing and disease pathogenesis like fibrosis and cancer [1,3,4]. Itgb6 determines αvβ6 expression and availability, and its study helps understand related molecular mechanisms. Gene knockout models can be valuable for functional studies of Itgb6.
In head and neck cancer, Itgb6 mediates differential responses to anti-CD276 treatment. It regulates the expression of CX3CL1, recruiting and activating PF4+ macrophages, and inhibition of the CX3CL1-CX3CR1 axis enhances sensitivity to anti-CD276 treatment [2]. In ITGB6-knockout HuCCT1 CCA cell lines, cell migration, invasion, wound-healing, and colony formation abilities were inhibited, and the cell cycle was dysregulated, with decreased PODXL2 expression [5]. In pancreatic cancer, ITGB6 knockdown in vitro and in vivo inhibited cancer cell proliferation and invasion [6].
In conclusion, Itgb6 is crucial in processes related to cancer. Through gene-knockout models, we've learned that Itgb6 plays roles in cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and response to immunotherapy. Understanding Itgb6's functions provides potential therapeutic targets for cancers and may help in developing more effective treatment strategies.
