Overview of Gene Research
Gpa33, also known as glycoprotein A33, is an Ig superfamily protein. It has been implicated in immune dysregulation, and its expression pattern can distinguish different cellular subsets, especially in the CD4+ T cell lineage [2]. In the immune system, it is expressed on fractions of B, dendritic, natural killer, and innate lymphoid cells, with prominent expression in the CD4+ T cell compartment [2].
Based on proteomic and transcriptomic approaches, GPA33 is expressed on a subset of human regulatory T (Treg) cells. It is acquired late during thymic Treg (tTreg) cell development but not expressed on TGF-β-induced Treg cells. GPA33 can identify Treg cells in human blood that lack the ability to produce effector cytokines. GPA33high Treg cells express the transcription factor Helios, can be stably expanded in vitro, and are suppressive, suggesting its potential use in isolating tTreg cells for adoptive cell therapy [1].
In conclusion, Gpa33 is important in immune-related cellular subset identification, especially in Treg cells. Its role in identifying stable tTreg cells provides a strategy for safer adoptive cell therapy, highlighting its significance in the field of immunotherapy [1].
