Overview of Gene Research
Htr2a, also known as the 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin) receptor 2A, is a crucial receptor in the serotonergic system. It plays important roles in fetal brain development, adult cognitive function, and is involved in many physiological processes related to the central nervous system [3,4,5]. Activation of Htr2a is key in the actions of hallucinogens, and it is also coupled to the Gq protein, which may trigger various downstream signaling pathways [2].
In a papain-induced lung inflammation mouse model, ILC2-specific depletion of Htr2a (Il5cre/+·Htr2aflox/flox mice) abolished the inhibitory effect of the HTR2A selective agonist (DOI) on ILC2s, indicating that Htr2a is involved in regulating the type 2 lung immune response [1].
In conclusion, Htr2a is essential for normal brain development and cognitive function, and is involved in the regulation of the immune response in the lung. Mouse models with Htr2a gene knockout or conditional knockout have provided important insights into its role in lung inflammation, suggesting Htr2a could be a potential target for treating type 2 lung inflammation [1].
