Overview of Gene Research
Mrps9, encoding mitochondrial ribosomal protein S9, is an essential component for the structural and functional integrity of the mitoribosome complex [2]. It plays a pivotal role in regulating mitochondrial function and maintaining structural integrity, and is associated with the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway [1].
In ischemic stroke research, bioinformatic analysis revealed significant underexpression of MRPS9 in patients. In vitro experiments with HN cells subjected to oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R) treatment showed reduced MRPS9 expression, decreased cell viability, and increased apoptosis. Overexpression of MRPS9 mitigated these OGD/R-induced effects. In mouse models, MRPS9 expression was lower in the middle cerebral artery occlusion/reperfusion (MCAO/R) group. KEGG pathway analysis associated MRPS9 with the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, and inhibition of this pathway counteracted the protective effect of MRPS9 overexpression on neuronal apoptosis [1].
In conclusion, Mrps9 is crucial for maintaining mitochondrial function and its regulation of the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway has a protective effect on neurons in ischemic stroke. Studies on Mrps9 contribute to understanding the pathophysiology of ischemic stroke and may offer new targets for diagnosis and treatment [1].
