Overview of Gene Research
Cptp, short for ceramide-1-phosphate transfer protein, is a member of the glycolipid transfer protein family. It shuttles ceramide-1-phosphate (C1P) between membranes, regulating cellular sphingolipid homeostasis. This function impacts programmed cell death, inflammation, autophagy and inflammasome activation. It is also associated with pathways such as the PI4KA/AKT signaling pathway [1,2,3,4].
In pancreatic cancer cells, high expression of Cptp is linked to poor prognosis. Knockdown of Cptp in human epithelial cells stimulates autophagosome formation and alters autophagy-related protein expression levels. In THP-1 macrophage-like cells, Cptp knockdown not only induces autophagy but also elevates caspase-1 levels and increases IL-1β and IL-18 release via an NLRP3 inflammasome-based mechanism [1,3].
In conclusion, Cptp is an endogenous regulator of early-stage autophagosome assembly and inflammasome-driven pro-inflammatory cytokine generation. Its role in pancreatic cancer and in regulating autophagy and inflammation suggests that it could be a potential therapeutic target in these disease areas [1,3].
